Inpatient Teaching

On the private urology service, the resident performs the admission history and physical examination on all patients. There are no non-teaching urology patients in the Medical Center.

Usually there are medical students on the Urologic Surgery Service. Urologic Surgery at Washington University is a junior elective of three weeks’ duration. In addition, seniors may opt for a four- to six-week elective in Urologic Surgery. Urologic Surgery residents are responsible for teaching students through a combination of ward rounds and clinical conferences. The students are expected to make rounds with the residents in the morning and evening. The students are also required to attend all teaching conferences of the Division of Urologic Surgery and the required conferences of the Department of Surgery.
